2022 Website Design Trends

The Tribe
Published

A new year means new trends - especially in the world of the web that’s constantly evolving. Let’s take a look at some of the top web design trends we’ve been seeing in 2022.

Nike Play Lab Example of High-Contrast

HIGH-CONTRAST

2020-2021 marked dark interfaces as trendy - we’re saying goodbye to that this year. Not only were websites opting for dark mode, but users had their social media, IOS, and operating system interfaces all set to dark mode throughout the year. While it’s safe to say we all still love dark mode, try experimenting with high-contrast, colorful interfaces in 2022. There’s no doubt that a carefully curated, vibrant palette will captivate your users - keep an eye on your analytics if you give this trend a shot and see if you notice a bump in session duration.

Nobocoto Example of What Goes Around Comes Around

WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND

You’ve definitely heard the line what goes around comes around - whether it be karma or the Ugg boot trend we all rocked in the 2000s, things tend to come full circle. Nostalgia is a full-on trend this year and it’s translating to the web. Now, this doesn’t mean we’re going back to the days of Windows 2000, but try implementing some elements of 90s and 2000s style and pop culture into your next website project. Retro fonts, grungy texture, or direct flash photography reminiscent of a disposable camera are great places to start.

ARCR Example of Dynamic Typography

Dynamic Typography

Boring typography? No thanks. If you’re a designer, chances are you have a list of go-to typefaces that get implemented across your projects. Give your list a break and add in some animated type or use type as large, dynamic building blocks for the rest of your design.

Lebron James Innovatio Center Example of Breaking the Grid

Breaking the Grid

In 2021, we saw a surge of very gird-heavy designs pop up across the web. The opposite seems to be the case as the new year gets started. While the grid is a tool that every web designer should always have in their toolbox and utilize, rules were made to be broken. Explore breaking your grid or overlapping text and sections this year to achieve a dynamic layout that’s sure to catch the attention of your users.

Scrolling Experiences

The new year has brought in a heavy emphasis on using scrolling animations to enhance the design and user experience. Immerse your user in your interface by enticing them to explore your site with movement. Try out a horizontal scrolling effect or animated transitions on your content.Feeling inspired yet?
